The Consent Project
Women's Struggle for Autonomy and Safety
Although women have made tremendous gains there is still a long way to go. A feminist understanding of consent would claim that until women have the same rights and freedoms as men their ability to truly consent will be hindered. Women continue to struggle in many critical areas:

-
Representation -- Though women are more and more visible in government, they are still far outnumbered by men.
-
Reproductive autonomy -- The current conservative agenda has overturned Roe vs. Wade, which has taken reproductive rights out of women's hands and plunged them back into the horror of illegal, back-alley abortions.
-
Ownership over their identity -- The fact that we need a Violence Against Women Act is absurd, but what is worse is that it expired in 2019 and has yet to be renewed.
-
Economic freedom -- Women are paid less for the same work as men, and the 2019 Global Gender Index placed the USA at 28th with poor scores in economic equality and social assistance for women.
Here is a brief timeline of some of the important events that have occurred in women's struggle for equality.
